Okay gentlemen, I've actually had the Wii since release, and I've already discharged the set of alkaline batteries that came with it. I also bought a second remote, and I've been switching back and forth between them for solo play. I've also had some simultaneous use from two-player Wii Sports. I estimate that the pack in batteries lasted around 30 hours, just as advertised.

When the batteries in the remote die, the game will pause and a message will appear on screen, saying that the connection with the remote has been lost. You receive the same message when the remote has been idle about five minutes; the remote automatically powers off to conserve battery life if you're not using it. Anyway, at this point you can change batteries in the current remote and or switch to an entirely new remote. In either case, after you sort out your power situation you can continue playing right where you left off without further interruption or hassle.

If you choose to buy rechargable batteries for your remote, Nintendo recommends you use NiMH. I decided to buy 4 Sanyo 2700mAh AA NiMH batteries for $12 and a Maha C-204W charger for $30.

Ive learnt from experience to avoid ALL rapid chargers like the plague, proper chargers may take longer but they do a much better job.

Ansmann make VERY good rechargeable batterys.

they sound good ajay. reckon i might pick up a couple of packs of those. one question though: will they work with just any recharger? because i'm sure i've got one lying around somewhere that i bought from argos or something ages ago. the batteries i got with that were fairly toss, but would it be ok to use it to charge those ansmann's?
          cheers!

The pack in batteries for my wiimote are down to the last bar now, and that's after a week of having the thing but by no means exessive play. Real shame Nintendo don't offer a rechargable option as Microsoft do, I love the convenience of just plugging my 360 pad into the system and letting it charge as I play. (or even over night)

Regie Fils-Amis has already said that Nintendo isn't interested in producing a recharge kit because they don't have the infrastructure to do it profitably. HOWEVER they are very interested in speaking to third-parties planning on releasing such devices.

Personally I already had an Energiser battery charger but only one set of batteries (lost the rest) which I used for my Game Boys. All I did was bought a pack of NiMH Energisers from Tesco when I did my shopping last week and they seem to work fine.

The main problem with rechargeable batteries is that they lose their voltage very quickly and for many digital devices that shortens the lifespan of the battery, even if the battery still has some power left in it. I've noticed that on my 360 for instance, rechargeable batteries often start out as three bars instead of four even when they've been properly charged. Just something you have to live with I guess.

Just spotted this link on InsertCredit, and while they are sold out and doubtless don't ship over here, i think they look nicer than the ones posted earlier in the thread:

New Nyko one on the way out soon also, though I'm not sure why they couldn't make the battery units white.

Just checked those ones out and I agree they have done themselves a disservice on that front. Not only are the backs grey but they have exposed contacts:

I'm sure it's all perfectly safe but i just don't like the idea...

                            hello

any recent additions to the recharable battery/charge station debate?

Im a little concerned about all the batteries I am going through and would rather have a slightly less wasteful solution.

                            Do hori do anything?

The set I got from Joytech is doing me just fine... they run out a bit quicker than normal batteries but overall it will save plenty of money in the long run...

I use the joytech charging station and it works a treat, been running on it for 6 months now and i leave the wiimotes in it all day and it doesnt seem to cause any harm

                                would recommend it
