    A Wii or a PS2? (+ a couple of questions)

Ok so currently I have a Wii on pre-order as i have now decided to purchase a 360 next year instead due to certain circumstances. Anyhow what do you think is best to buy at this moment in time:

    > Wii+Zelda and maybe a couple of good gamecube games i missed out on playing.

    >Import an American PS2, buy Final Fantasy 12, rebuy FFX and a couple of other titles i missed. (do you need a step down for this?Or just a plug adapter?)

Oh and do UK memory cards work on American systems?

As both have what is basically a last gen game that is absoloutely amazing, the PS2 obviously being cheaper, at least i think, or the Wii with longer lasting value and more titles being released next year for it.

I really cannot decide atm hence this post, all opinions welcome

I don't have a Wii yet so I'm not going to tell you which is best but a couple of answers to your Q's:

    i) you need a step-down for the older 'bulky' PS2's. Slimline PS2's don't need one though as they come with a multivoltage PSU. A ll you need to do is replace the US power lead with a UK lead. If you don't have one already then they can be bought for approx. 3 or 4 quid.

ii) UK memory cards work fine on US PS2's.

Thanks that means i wouldnt have to buya stepdown then, and i can get some use out of this ps2 mem card sitting on my desk.

Can you only get these off ebay, if so would this be fine?

You don't need a new ac adapter.

You just need a figure 8 cable. you get one with your psp, xbox etc.

Depends really. If you really rushed it then you could do it in under 50 hours, but if you went through it normally about 60-70.

If you wanted to do everything, then easily into the 100's of hours. The ingame clock has 3 digits for hours.

Really good game, if a little easy. The story is really easy, the bosses that you have to fight and such. The real hard stuff is the optional enemys, one has 6,000,000 HP and the max damage you can do in a single hit is 9999, so it takes time.

Seems like a lot of trouble to get a US PS2 though, wouldn't it be easier to get a modified UK machine? Then you could play UK and US games, or is that a bit out of your scope?

I really wouldnt know the first place to look to get a modded machine, that would be alot easier though - i imagine i would have to buy a ps2 and mod it myself as theres none on ebay as far as i can see, however it sounds like ff12 would take longer than zelda to complete

If you get a ps2 you suddenly have a vast back catalogue available. You could get a wii later when the price comes down and there's more games.

I think you have to really follow your heart on this one. I mean, are you considering the PS2 because it's "sensible" or "seems better value"? Or have you always wanted a PS2 but feel you ought to get a Wii "because it's new gen". Follow your heart, not your head.

CharlesR has hit the nail on the head over the PS2's back-catalogue, and I find one quite tempting for just that reason... but I've never owned a PS2 before. It sounds like you already have had one & sold it... in that case, I think a PS2 would be a bit of a step backwards - you might find the number of games you have available is "limited" because you've already played the best ones already.

Well i am purely basing my decision on the games, i love zelda games and i love the final fantasy games, i have owned a ps2 before but there are a few other titles i would like tomplay, on the flip side there are alot of gamecube games i wouldnt mind getting. At the minute the ps2 is losing based purely on the fact that it is turning into quite a hassle to get one whih i will be able to play NTSC games on. I honestly cannot seperate them but that is what is putting me off the ps2, i have tried to look into any UK PAL that can play NTSC games but i only found a dodgey listing on ebay

Videogamesplus would be the only place i could get a ps2 from but by the time i have paid for everything else import tax etc etc, it would end up being the same price as a Wii, i think i am not more confused than i was to begin with!

I see what you mean about the ps2 being a step back though, that was soemthing i was thinking about, as when it comes down to it ff12 is the game i am interested in and maybe the bleach and naruto game, as for the head and heart thing, their both mixed up lol

Ghost2fitter is a reputable supplier of a UK PAL pre-modded PS2, but it's still not much cheaper.

Much as I'm unimpressed with Sony & the whole Lik-Sang thing there's a big bit of me that says "that's ?150 that could go towards a PS3, and I'd be able to play PS2 games on that".

In the meantime I've done VERY well on back-catalogue games for the Gamecube - on my first spree with VG+ I picked up 8 games, all based on their reviews of 8/10 or 9/10 and all games that I wanted to play, for ?133 delivered.

If you never owned a Gamecube I'd have thought that games like Paper Mario, Metroid & Zelda (you can pick up the original, II - Adventure of Link, Ocarina of Time & Majora's Mask on the "Collector's Edition" for ?15 in the forums) would be quite compelling.

                          Stroller.

You know what strolls your right, thats really helped me, if I buy a ps2 now im spedning too much for something that will not be used as much in the future, and it may aswell of been ?150 towards a PS3, i will save the joys of final fantasy 12 for the PS3 as it looks like it will need it anyway For now i will buy a Wii and some good Gamecube classics to keep me going, i missed out on f-zero GX and wouldnt mind playing resi 4 as never did play the single player! Sure i can blag a few games off my mates too

Thanks for your hhelp everyone, Wii is what I am going to choose!
