Dodgy wireless 360 controller?

I bought a second wireless controller from GAME at the weekend (?8 off voucher) but the bally thing wont resolve as either controller 1 or 2.
I've tried the reset button on the front of the controller, but still no joy. Anyone got any ideas?

It just sits there all 4 segments flashing btw.
