can't connect to the internet with my network cable

i had to open my pc the other day to put a new dvd writer inside, but since i put it back together i cant connect to the internet via my network cable, it only works by usb but thats slower cos its usb 1.1. i have 10mb. ive tried everything, rebooting the modem, repairing the connection just hangs. ive even tried re-installing the network card but still no luck, its a motorolla surfboard modem i am using. any ideas?

Make sure in netwrok connections that your lan connection is obtaining the ipaddress automaticaly.Sometimes if it is fixed, it will not pick up the internet connection .
