Red Steel, Call of Duty 3 or Far Cry Vengeance? Or should I stay away from all of them? The thing is, I really want to try out an FPS on Wii, but I don't want to waste my money either.

FPS on the Wii?

I'm really pleased with Red Steel. I don't want to like it as much as I do, but I'm finding it quite addictive; Red Steel kinda formulaic - I keep finding myself thinking "we must be due for a sword-fight soon", and guess what? The girlfriend you have to rescue is frikkin' annoying and I'd say that it's almost a little too easy - for one thing there's always plenty of ammo scattered around, so you can always use your favourite gun.
But for me it's just the ideal kind of shooting action - it's just lots of fun and when I stop for a break I find my hand's slightly sore from the tense way I've been holding the wiimote.
So I just find that something's very right about this game - it's not a 10, for sure, but I am very pleased to own it.

I actually want to try Red Steel. It might have some problems, but it seems kind of fun as well. I remember all the critics that P.N. 03 got, but I still enjoyed the game (and I wasn't the only one). But I think I'm gonna wait and see what people thinks of Far Cry Vengeance. Or maybe I should wait for Elebits? It's not exactly the usual FPS, but it seems like a lot of fun.

Potentially FPS games could be awesome on the Wii. Obviously the gfx won`t be as good as anything else availiable but the control system is more akin to a PC`s keyboard and mouse style of play, rather than the substandard use of a joystick on a control pad.
I`d defo avoid the festering pile of ****e that is Red Steel and invest in maybe CoD3 and Metroid, I`m sure that they will be the purest examples of how the point and click controls should work on the Wii.

Its a tricky one though. Far Cry has been around for so long that I'm surprised there's anyone left who hasn't played it to death.
CoD3? I haven't seen it running yet, but with no multiplayer and HD graphics, I'll stick to the 360 version I think.
Which leaves Red Steel. I never really bought in to the hype about it as I thought it looked distinctly average, so I'm still undecided really. I need to look at the 1st play thread though as the reviews I've seen so far haven't exactly been positive.
Which means I'd buy..... none of them. Oops. FPS could be superb with the control system, but I think its a case of wait and see. Or take a gamble on one of the above and you should be able to shift it on second hand if you don't like it?

Far Cry looks pretty awful on the Wii, and I gather it's another derivative of the pretty dire Xbox versions. PC Far Cry is the only way to go.
Call of Duty is good on the 360, not great, but very sold and very pretty in places. It also controls really well so given the dreadful visuals on the Wii version.. I'd go 360 on that one. You get online play too of course with 360.
Red Steel is a real mixed bag. It's visually quite nice for a Wii, and it does a lot of creative things with the wiimote. But.. (and this is a huge but), the controls are very, very fiddly and difficult to get used to. Sometimes it all goes well and I can pull of headshots with ease and make it all look easy. Other times I seem to end up looking at the floor or the ceiling. It really needed more options to tweak it, make it more direct, as it stands you have to push the screen around with the remote, rather than it being locked to the center. It's pretty messy at times and doesn't feel natural. The swordplay is fun though.
It really looks like Metroid is going to be the first great FPS on the Wii.
