    HDTV question

Ok i have a samsung 26" LE26R41BD, now i have yet to see on any HDTV on here so far the game not filling the screen, why is it when i play some old games through composite (on the ps2) that it will have a black line round the whole of the screen. Is it because my TV simply chooses not to upscale it?

For example in the Wii setup thraed i clearly see Zelda not on componet in full screen! So is it my HDTV or was it the PS2, when i hook my Wii up to my HDTV will i 'need' the component cable straight off to have it full screen or will it be upscaled and fill the screen when put through composite, or is there simply a setting i am not familiar with on my TV.

Basically, most old Tvs did a thing called overscan, which was to stretch the image beyond the borders of the TV screen. In videogames this means that you can lose health bars and stuff off the screen.

The PS2 puts a black border around the edge of its screen to reduce this effectm meaning that on TVs that don't overscan , you can see the black borders. It is perfectly normal for PS2 games.

You 'need' component as composite is the most disgusting video format known to man :P

lol, thanks. Yeah i will definately be getting component but i was just fearing i would have another experience like dragon quest 8 and lose a good margin of my screen!! So Zelda should fit the screen nicely but look a bit dodgey till i get the component lead then? (no black borders?)

It will look a bit dodgey, i.e. a blurry , smudgey over saturated mess, but it won't have black borders.

If the black borders bug you on the Ps2 you can always use the zoom function

Smudgey i can deal with, borders annoy the hell out of me lol, yeh but the thing is with the zoom function its a farce positioning it everytime i go between dtv and source lol.

Anyhow thanks for the info! Now i just cant wait to get my Wii and Zelda!
