Standard SD cards work. But by my understanding Wii doesn't support over 2 GB big SD cards. Furthermore, all launch games can access saves only from internal memory. Latest firmware patch added possibility of transferring save files to external SD card for backupping purposes (you can even send them to your friends if you want).

So the VC games can be stored on card and saves on the internal 512? (Which should be plenty!!)

Oh right thanks for that. I didn't know it had internal memory that you could use for saves

Just tried using a 2gb SanDisk card in my Wii and while I can use it to view pics, I can't transfer saves etc. Do I need to connect my wii up to the Internet first before it'll allow me to do this?

Oh and I'm trying to copy Wii Sports and Red Steel Saves if that makes any difference.

That's pretty crap I'm not really able to connect to the Internet. Was just looking on the nintendo website and it says:

"If you wish to use an SD Card as a storage device, but are unable to connect your Wii console online or have no plans to do so, please call for available options."

Tried ringing and can't get through, anyone any idea what these available options are?

The available options are they send you a disc with the firmware upgrade on it.

But i havent heard of anyone getting one yet.

Thanks importaku. That'd be fair enough, will keep trying the number then. Don't know why they don't just offer it as a download to burn a cd at home though, I'm sure my mate did that with his 360.

Because they are probably weary of people who burn this to a disk and sell it on ebay or something. Just a thought.

Finally got through to someone at nintendo who told me the maximum card I could use was 2mb and that if I couldn't connect to the Internet I wouldn't be able to use an sd card for saves etc. So not at all helpful.

I was looking at all the manuals that come with the wii and one hints at future game releases having firmware upgrades on them. Do you think this will be the case?
