Streaming Video - can I save it?

Is there any way to save a streaming video say from YouTube or the BBC? Are there any programs that would allow me to save the video files? Preferably I'm after something I can download and use for free (big ask I know).

Also I'm after recommendations for a program to convert video files into different formats, mainly so I can convert whatever I rip into WMV for my 360.

    Cheers in advance

There are plenty of sites that will let you save a video from youtube (don't know about bbc), on them, you enter the video URL and it does the rest. Google is your friend

If you're using Firefox, you can try the Videodownloader 2.0 extentsion. It supports youtube and plenty of others but not the bbc website...yet.

The Riva FLV encoder is what I use to convert the videos from .flv to .wmv and vice-versa.
