'Freeloader' for PS3 backward compability?

Yeah, I know it's region-locked for PS1 and PS2 games but do you think someone will find a way to bypass the lock, kind of like Freeloader did for the Gamecube?

Nobody knows yet. At any rate, given the current backwards compatibility problems I would advise keeping a modded PS2 around for now if you can.

Though Sony may have modders beaten this time. Since they can force firmware updates like with PSP, their updates could brick or invalidate modded systems. That's a scary thought.

what's all this about negativity?? The PS3 is gonna be great! I have no issues with backward compatabilily, hacks will come out to really open up the system, open source, it's a sure fire hit.

Everyone is just pissed (righly so) cause Sony messed up the launch is ways I can't beleive!

With games being region free and US/Jpn blu ray compatability and UK region playback potentially possible in the future I don't think it's going to be so much of an issue as it was. You'll never get a US/Jpn PS3 playing PAL DVD's though as I don't think the hardware is capable.

I love mine and have Resistence and Motorstorm both of which are great, with Motorstorm being super-great.

Also blu-ray movie watching is very nice and it doesn't sound like a helicopter taking off.

The games will force you to upgrade the f/w or they won't run.

New firmware can tamper with how the system works so that your mod chips won't function anymore. Or worse yet, it could brick your system. Reprogrammable chips might work though, if they have firmware of their own. But it won't be as easy as the old days where you get a mod chip fitted once and you can forget all about it afterwards. It will be a constant game of leapfrog with Sony.
