what exactly is a Naomi board? I know what it is, but how exactly it works? it has some kind of disk player? the games aren't contained directly on the board chipset? I ask this because searching the web I'm stepped into a "Naomi GD-Rom", so I was wondering if Naomi games are just GD-Roms and all Naomi boards are the same, and just the disk changes...

Naomi games originally existed on Naomi ROM cartridges that plugged into the Naomi motherboard.Of course the cartridges proved expensive for operators to purchase , and with the decline of the arcade industry in Japan this hampered sales.
Luckily Sega always planned to release games on a proprietry disc format.Gigabyte Rom -discs (GD-roms ).This not only saved Sega saved some finances but also saved the operators a lot of cash. We'll that was the plan , a lot of operators I knew shutdown.
( Not sure if thats answered your question or not ^^*)
--------
Naomi ROMS + GD-ROMS.
(I've had 20+ Naomi systems and 5+ Noami'2 systems over my time , for my personal collection and some were imported for friends.Sadly another part of an old collection now all gone, with a lot of pics too ^^

You can run a GD ROM in a JAMMA cab with a Naomi 2 mobo and the 5V cranked way up but it's something I'd never do as its bound to fudge your I/O over time (and kill any JAMMA board if you forget to turn it down). Superguns rarely have adjustable voltage or enough juice on the 5V. A seperate shuttle type PSU is definitely the way to go.
More info at http://www.sega-naomi.com/ if anyone's interested.
Being JVS, Naomi is one of the most daunting home arcade formats but it aint half worth it when you have Final Tuned, Ikaruga and MVC2 running at home 8)
