Whats the deal with HDMI 1.3? Do any tv's support it?

Am gonna buy a Sony KDS-55A2000 HDTV soon. Does anyone know if it supports hdmi 1.3? Know a little about 1.3, the new HD standard, but is it that necessary?

Have a standard 55" rear projection tv, need to upgrade as watching green dvd's via scart on my PS3 is making me froth at the mouth with anger.

I think 1.3 allows for lossless audio to be transmitted over an HDMI cable. I also think I heard something about deep pixel support, but I think that all of this stuff will most likely be limited to BD playback as opposed to being anything meaningful for gaming.

BD disks are encoded with 4:2:0 YV12 colour compression, but gaming is already being pumped out of your PS3 at full 4:4:4 24-bit RGB.

Here is a shot of Ridge Racer 7 captured with full 4:4:4 precision over HDMI (the only loss in quality will be due to saving the image as a JPEG). I'm not really sure how HDMI 1.3 could improve that.

There were quite a lot of additions to 1.3, mainly the support for deep pixel as Grandmaster stated, allowing for 48-bit RGB/YUV colour.

It also supports the passing of Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD over HDMI, as well as 1080p and 1440x900 finally becoming spec.

But don't worry about it too much. Any HDMI 1.3 device is downcompatible, and unless you really need TrueHD or DTS-HD, there are far more important matters for consideration, like the quality of the actual TV.
