    Japanese TV in the UK

    Hi everyone,

Is it possible to get a Japanese TV working in the UK? I`m guessing the TV tranmission signal is different but I`m also guessing there`s a chance I could use some kind of step down and use it as an import gaming TV. Is this possible?

I`m currently living in Japan and will probably return to the UK in 2 years. I`m thinking of buying a nice HDTV here but its quite an investment if I can only keep it for 2 years (possibly less).

    Any help is appreciated.

It should work fine, but not for 50Hz PAL stuff.

      Ok thanks!

Does anyone know what kind of power step down I`d need? Would it be safe to keep the TV running for a long time?

To be honest, any new TV here in the UK should be able to handle anything you throw at it, so you'd be far better off buying one here instead when you return.

I agree. I was going to wait until I return but I might not be back for some time and I really want to buy and play a 360 (and in the future PS3) on a HDTV. At the moment I`ve got a very cheap CRT.

I'd go for it, in 2 years time you might even be wanting to upgrade your HDTV.

I would buy something now, I always think the same, but never end up keeping a TV for any longer than 12-18 months anyway.

In two years you will want to upgrade anyway, 1080p plasmas will be dirt cheap.

Thanks for the comments. I think I will go ahead and purchase one over here.

Your all right about wanting another one in a couple of years and I could just be putting it off forever.

But just to check...no one can see any problems with the power voltage in the UK can they? Nothing I can`t find a way around?

                Cheers

Well a TV uses a lot of juice, so yo would need one hell of a step down to run it.

What sort of screen are you considering?? A commercial plasma from someone like panasonic is not only the best image available but in Japan it is cheap and multivoltage too.

Perhaps a Projector might be better bet as it will be easier to take it back to England.

                      Good point.

Plus if you zoom in to a small screen, say 40" you can use it with a fair amount of ambient light in the room. Then at night when watching films etc. pull it vack for a nice 7ft screen.
