    Third party GC memory cards

Beware third party GC memory cards - I tried a 4GAMERS memory card that was lying about [themed with Resident Evil 0 sticker on front] and it got stuck! The little plastic clasp in the Wii that holds an official memory card in place for some reason binds almost irretrievably with this unofficial 'Cube memory card [and probably many others]. Needed a lot of fiddling about and a few little screwdrivers to get it out. Another good reason to stick with branded memory cards!

jesus christ!! thanks for the heads up!

I used to get tons of the 4gamers ones when i worked at game, like oens they would make for pre-order bonuses for mario kart and stuff....

glad i got my official one.

seriously man.. thanks for the warning. you saved my wii!

i found cash converters can be a good place to pick up official mem cards, picked up 251's for a couple of quid, sometimes they don't seem to differentiate between them and cheapy 3rd party ones.

            WHY?

Because they are cheap and so far I've had no problems with them. (had them 3 or so years) That's why!

Although I've heard people have had a fair few troubles such as lost data, etc.

              I learnt the hard way,

I had my PSO gamecube files ****ed up by a piece of **** 3rd party card. Over 90 hours of playtime plus all my rare weapons & mags lost.

              Cheap isnt always best

yeah but it was also with the fact the official cards were really hard to find for a while.... even working at game it was rare to get them in!

Thanks for the Info ! I'm off to buy a new Cube memory card today so I can play Bio Hazard 4 on the Wii.

I had a similar problem with 3rd party Dreamcast cards getting stuck in the arcade joystick! Thankfully the 3rd party DC cards don't lose data or at least the EMS, Dragon and NEXUS ones don't.

I had exactly the same thing with exactly the same card!

I just yanked it out tbh :P

the memory slot still works, the memory card still works, and when you put the resi 0 memory card in now, it come in and out as an official one does- i wouldnt worry too much.

When it comes to most third party items on Nintendo machines, and especially memory cards...

I've got a generic 4Mb card which I think might be a Game own-brand one (it's about twice the length of an official one, with a fat back end for grabbing and see-through plastic case). That seems fine, although I have noticed that sometimes when I do something to a file, it will complete the action but then it says the card cannot be used, and I have to remove it and re-insert before the machine will register. Good thing the official ones are so cheap second-hand.
