Power Supply Woes :-(

Hey fellas,

Left my PC on last night, got up today and it was off, tried to turn it on at the switch, wouldnt turn on, tried removing the plug, putting back in, and still wouldnt turn on, tried the switch on the PSU itself.. still no joy.

It appears my PSU passed away in the night, I have gone through so many PSUs its unbelievable.

Its an Akasa Paxpower Ultra Quiet 460w ATX2.0 PSU (blue LED) and it cost me a grand total of ?65.00 from lowestonweb.com on 21/02/2005 so its not even 2 years old and its gone..

I used to buy the cheapest of the cheap power supplies for like ?10 a time, they failed on me after about a year, one after about 3 weeks, so then I moved up to more expensive power supplies (Antex) had the same problem, just over a year, so then I got this one and its gone.

I think the warranty on this was 1 year, does anyone have any ideas as to whether theres anything I can do to get it replaced? I guess I have no chance.

Can anyone recommend a new PSU to me, I was thinking maybe Enermax as some of them have a 3 year warranty, and a mean time before failure of 100,000 hours. Can anyone recommend somewhere to buy the PSU from which may hopefully deliver before new year?

With the old PSU i am thinking I can a) flog it on ebay for 99p so at least I dont feel bad about chucking it or b) cannibalise it for parts to use for modding

Just ordered a brand spanking new Enermax PSU, my pocket is hurting but well hopefully will get it on 28th

New PSU has 3 years warranty... yay!

An UPS will help too. You can buy an APC RS-1000 or RS-1500 and use it for this computer and the next, or until they will require more than 1k watts to be left idling.

[EDIT] BTW, I usually reccomed Tagan PSUs. I have the "old", non-modular TGU530-U22 and it's an excellent power supply, completely silent despite the two fans and with excellent amperages on all lines. It's rated for 530W and it withstands spikes up to 850W for 2 seconds.
