Making a Wii RGB scart cable, using the composite cable?.

Has anyone looked into making an RGB scart cable and using the end connector from the composite cable?. It should be fairly simple and a hell of a lot cheaper than buying the official one (?25?!).

Is this possible? I'm after a RGB scart but need the phono outs for my amp, so the official one aint no good. If I could take the composite end off and make an RGB scart, leaving the phono's, that'd be perfect.

It's possible but not all that easy. The composite cable doesn't have any pins on the RGB lines, so you need to add your own with paperclips or pins taken out of other connectors. Have a look at the component lead thread on the GameSX forum. Making an RGB lead is more or less the same, only you need to keep the composite signal for the sync, and you don't have to bridge the mode select pins.

That takes a component signal and feeds it into a SCART socket (not generally all that useful as very few TVs support component through SCART). You couldn't use that to get RGB from a composite lead, which is what the question was about.

The solution to that is to use the magical Argos RGB splitter and drag some audio cables off to your amp while the wonderful RGB picture goes off to the TV. No custom/special cables required.

That's what I've done and it works and looks a treat (and that's on a 67inch HD TV)! I'm seriously considering sticking to RGB rather than component now, especially as I'd have to extend the woefully short audio leads to reach the amp anyway.

            Final picture quality will decide......

is this the splitter that allows the fix for the jpn saturns? (leaving another device on to give enough power to pin 16?)
