Is the UK PS2 really still ?170?!

I've been looking around for a new PS2 and most places are charging ?170 for them still (Game, Dixons, Gameplay etc). Are they really this expensive still?

Is there anywhere i can get a cheap 2nd hand unboxed one for like ?80 or something? CeX the rip off merchants want ?110 or so for a 2nd hand unboxed one! Seems PS2's hold their value better than most expensive cars

I may as well buy a new model JPN SCPH-5000 for ?170 inc delivery! Presuming i crumble and decide to flex the CC:

1) Can you still mod these new JPN versions to play PAL/US games?
2) Can i use a UK RGB cable with it?

1) Not yet. Messiah 2 v1.31 is in testing and is supposed to work with these new revision 9 boards. Check around for more info.

The price is right, why would sony drop it ?

After all its outselling everything else at the mo.

I'd keep looking at Play.com as i brought a PS2 from them last month for ?129.99, during these quite summer months retailers might start a discount war, or maybe not.

I believe its the case that DSG (i.e. Dixons, Currys, PC World) are throwing in the Eye Toy and a Platinum game for free, if that sweetens the deal for you.

Just have 15 minutes of warfare to look forward to before they'll sell it without an extended warranty then.
