    No 60Hz on UK PS3?

Don't mean to jump to conclusions and start a panic here, but those of you with PS3's, go to the Online Instruction Manual on the XMB, and look under Settings->Video Output.
Here they describe what video modes are supported for each region.

Note in section 4, under 'Supported video modes (PAL region), they specifically state 576p, without 480p being there. As in, the 480p mode won't be a selectable on the PAL XMB at all.

In the little * notes under the table, they also state that 576i will be a selectable on the PAL machine (labelled as [Standard (PAL)]) instead of 480i (labelled as [Standard (NTSC)].

This can mean anything of course, but it DOES mean that 480i/p will not be a selectable on the XMB.

Don't know what to think. Its Sony and anything is possible.
A US unit has always been the the front-runner for me and nothing has changed in that regard.

It's not like it really matters to those of us sensible enough to go with an import machine. Even if the PAL machine is region free, do you trust SCEE?

It just strikes me as worrying that 480p is deliberately not there, in favour of 576p. The manual clearly phrases it to be clear it's not on the menu at all.

The full list for PAL regions is 1080p/1080i/720p/576p/576i. So you think it'll be 50Hz for all those resolutions?

I'd be very suprised to see PAL PS3 games running at 720p or above running at 50hz.

'But it's Sony, they raped my mother and killed my father as well as bummed my pet goat' etc

50Hz only is quite obviously highly unlikely, even the PS2 can output 60Hz ffs.

That list is also unlikely to be final for the PAL region.

I bet it ends up doing both, just like the 360.

LOL - Despite what people may think of Sony, they wouldn't stoop that low and deprive PAL land of 60hz.

I don't think there is any question that the HD resolutions will be at 60Hz, but the standard def resolutions are what is in question here.

Your guess is only as good as anyone elses as to how Sony will be configuring PAL hardware.
For every one bad word said against Sony, there is always someone with the "Sony molested my dog" type response. Its getting old.

All the more reason for me to get an American machine like I was going to do anyway when ever some decent games get released.

I can't afford a new TV yet because I'm thinking of going back to college next year, so 60hz was going to be my only option. Until I could get a telly which was only going to happen once I'm established in a job again. After a lengthy period of illness.

I imaging it's a seperation of NTSC and PAL 'standard definition'. The PS2 didn't output PAL at 60hz, remember. But it's all speculation, no?

                            Yes, its all speculative.

And since I for one don't believe we will see the console in March, we have plenty more time to speculate.

They're also the only console manufacturer consistently releasing 50hz only 1st party titles (excluding VC)
