from what i've been told (and is correct), a 360 will only read a fat32 formatted drive... capacity drops slightly but certainly nothing amazing, well nothing i'd complain about anyway.

Thanks for the info. Any of the drives in this thread known to work well with the 360? At the moment my only external storage is a 40GB laptop drive fitted into one of those USB drive caddys, not exactly cutting edge Doesn't work with my 360 either.

any drive marked "compatible with xp and mac os" will be fat32 right out of the box. as long as it can be connected by usb it'll work. i'm off to buy one right now so check back later and i'll let you know, gonna get the 320gig seagate one.

Cheers mate, thanks for the replies. I was having a look at a Packard Bell 320GB drive from PC World (just under £80 delivered). The main thing that attracted me to it is that it's supposed to be silent. Always a plus!

right, got the 320 seagate... it's ntfs out of the box. i guess i just skim read the part it said "mac os compatible" didn't realise it meant 'if you format it'.

balls. can i be arsed to take it back?

it appears my fears were unfounded... it's fat32 out of the box! it's a 320 gig drive and with fat32 it's got 298gig, which is about 5 times more than i require for a good while.

i'm gonna sling some files across to it and attach it to the 360 now and see what happens.

*edit: also, usb 2 ftw... it's pretty speedy.
**edit 2: works perfectly. whap it out of the pc, plug it into the 360 and BAM! instant tuneage. now to get this piece of **** lacie brick drive sent back. pile of toss.
