Joytech AV Control Center 245C problems

I recently purchased one of these babies and soon after discovered it didn't function 100% properly. I have videogames and dvd-video's where the image crashes/disappears and I get a blue screen and sometimes the image comes back and sometimes it doesn't come back.
Also at times I have these scrambled parts in the video (which if it does occur ALWAYS occurs on that part of the dvd-video or videogame).
I made some video's to clarify this:

Is this a common problem? Or is my device just disfunctional?
I have this with various videogames and video dvd's and as said, it's not a random crash or scramble. If it happens, it happens everytime at the same moment.

I don't have these problems when connecting the consoles/players directly to the tv. I also tried different component cables from the Joytech to the tv, but no difference..

    Yes it is sadly.

For HD/EDTV, these devices are not fit for purpose. With standard def signals you should have no issues at all, so if you are getting issues with SD sources through the switcher, then it is definitely faulty.

So if I turn progressive scan off on the consoles and dvd-players this problem shouldn't occur?

Well, I've brought it back to the distributor. They didn't know if it would be fixed or if I'll get a new one. Whatever it is, I hope I get it fast.

Yes aslong as the source is SD, you should be fine. But that would be a waste of perfectly good progressive capability that the rest of your gear could benefit from.

I overcome this issue by using a passive AV switch which doesn't feature any electronics whatsoever. It means that I have to get up and switch each input and I have to route all the optical outputs to my AV reciever, but at the end of the day, it works without noticeable degredation. One day soon I'll get an AV reciever with multiple component inputs.

I also have a passive switch (the one from Play-Asia) and it doesn't have problems like the Joytech, but sometimes you have the scrambled lines too. But it's really just a small line then for a brief moment, not like with the Joytech as I show in the video's.

I had the Control Center 540C, supposedly 'designed' for HD. Load of crap.

I use a cheapo passive audio switcher now to switch Component, does the job perfect, even at 1080i.

It's a very sad problem. We've been discussing it for a bit in the Wii subforum as many people in a newsgroup reported problems with good component cables. So far Joytech didn't replied to any mail anyone sent asking if (and how) they will solve the problem.

You mean a lot of Wii owners having problems with the Joytech?

Have a link for me for that?
(the discussion in the Wii subforum)

So it's likely that with a new unit I will get the same problems?

Ah, missed that one! Better to continue there and keep it centralized
