Where to get gameboy advance sp on the cheap?

Ok so i will evetually down the line get another DS :P but for now i want something that is more 'portable' than the DS so i looked towards the adavance SP. However in my search i was thinking surely they still cannot be this price. Now I have checked places for new ones but all seem to be ?70 still!! Second hand ones in stores also appear to be ?40 i was looking towards the ?30 mark lol (but i am a bit of a cheapskate when its optional items )

Anyhow if anyone could tell me other than ebay as i have searched that to death and found some but looking at other avenues first, please let me know

Argos do the pink one for £46

    Amazon might be worth checking.

The Micro version was £30-40 at a number of sites over Xmas.

The Micro is fine and the picture quality is better because it is backlit rather than front lit like the SP. I saw it going for £25 recently - but I think that must have finished now. Keep your eyes pealed.

The downside to the Micro is that it only plays advance games - not GBC or OG GameBoy games.

EDIT: just checked the usual places and the only deal for less than £30 was at comet - but looks like they've sold out now. So - Virgin isn't that bad an offer really.

The SP mark 2 does have a backlight with changable brightness.

I love my Micro. The screen size has never been an issue for me and I've played a lot of text-heavy games (FFIV, FFV, FFTA, Mario & Luigi, etc). The screen is beautiful and it's so small that you can leave it in your pocket and just forget about it. Definitely my favourite iteration of the Game Boy.

My only annoyance is that since it was never a big success there are very few faceplates out there, least of all official ones. My silver Micro has a smudge on it that can't be cleaned off and I can't get a silver faceplate without buying a new one. I wish they'd made the whole thing brushed metal like the back of it.

The Zelda SP is the old frontlit model. The backlit model is available in Graphite Black from VG+ and Graphite Black and Pearl Blue from NCSX but both will set you back around ?55 including delivery and you'll need to pick up a replacement charger or stepdown for them. I've seen a Pikachu and Spongebob Squarepants limited edition backlit SPs on eBay occasionally but they usually go for silly money.

Thanks for that ryodi, i will have a look about for them black graphite ones. If not i may go with the micro after Neko saying ff is playable on the small screen.

IMO the SP2 on its highest setting is a lot more vivid that the Micro's screen and the screen has better clarity on the SP2. The attached image shows Pokemon Emerald on both SP2 and Micro. Personally I prefer using the SP2 to the Micro but the Micro does look cooler.

No. The new ones come in a rectangular box with "New Frontlit Screen" on the front like in this IGN article.
