    Wireless card on a laptop

    Hi everyone,

We recently got a wireless broad band connection and the modem is up and running. The problem is we bought a new wireless card for our laptop but its not connecting to the internet.

When I look at the wireless connections settings on the laptop I can see our broad band provider but it doesnt establish a link. The link light on the wireless card just keeps blinking.

Anyone have any idea whats going on, or can anyone point me in the right direction??

    Thanks in advance,

Have a look at the firewall settings on your computer. I assume you are running Windows XP?
Are you using a wireless access point or a router? Try to log into the router using your browser. The address of the router will be along the lines of 192.168.0.1
Should be written on the router somewhere. Once you log in check it's connected to the internet OK.
Have you tried connecting the router via an ethernet cable to the laptop's LAN port?

      Thanks for your suggestions.

Tried accessing the router, changing the fire wall settings (now I`ve left it off) and it works fine when connected with the cable.

But no luck. The wireless connection still isnt working

Is it one of those Orange Livebox things you have? There is a sync button you have to press on the Livebox before pairing with your laptop.

Try turning everything off. Plug the laptop into the router via ethernet again. Turn on the modem, wait for it to connect. Turn on the router, wait for it to settle. Turn on the laptop and go through the wireless connection wizard again.
