Asian 360s have a 220v psu (and three pin plug afaik) so work fine over here, but with a JPN 360 (110v) you will need a stepdown, or alternatively a uk psu, which can be expensive.

The only other difference is that all Asian games work on a JPN 360 but a couple of JPN only games won't work on an Asian 360, can't remember which ones though....

As far as English language options, Asian games are more likely to have an English language option, although several Japanese games have it also.

Bit of good news additionally though, Blue Dragon which is Japanese Subtitles/Voices in Japan at the moment is being released in Singapore in May, with English subs/menus,but keeping the original Japanese voice acting.

I will be ordering that promptly

I need to make a FAQ sticky on this.

Are peripherals mainly region free? e.g. wireless pads universal?
Would I be restricted to the Asian HDDVD drive if I decided to ever get one? Or could I use a UK one?

You probably want just the console, Charles, but there're some cracking deals on the high street atm, wait till Forza's out and they'll doubtless be even better. You'll still be able to get Asian games as well, and presumably there's less hassle if yours conks out.

          *Ignore me, I can't read. embarassedsmiley.gif

Peripherals are universal as far as I know. I've used pads from everywhere on my JPN and Asian 360. I also used a UK HD DVD drive with both my JPN and Asian 360 as well.

Only if they're region free, which quite a few of them aren't.

Hardware is region free, with the exception of the HD-DVD drive.

The drive is region locked to the drive itself, not your 360. For example if you have a Japanese 360 and a US HD-DVD drive, you can watch region 2/4 DVD's using the 360 drive and Region 1 DVD's using the HD-DVD drive. The same applies to HD-DVDs obviously, but at the moment they are all region free (region 0) so assuming they aren't evil and start region locking films, we should be fine.

The Asian Crackdown is out of stock at PA but I just noticed that they have the Japanese version of Crackdown in stock, and on special offer for ?20!!! So I just ordered myself a copy, no idea if it's in Japanese or English but I expect the majority of it will still be in English.

The game data on the disc is identical from region to region, saves money for the publishers to print the same code to all the discs. My UK copy of crackdown still shows as Riot Act on the main menu.

                  It'll be fully English.

Superb, fantastic bargain at that price then. I doubt it's going to stay in stock for very long!

I'm considering getting an Asian 360 Core. For £150 I can get all games for around £25 without having to worry whether there will be a region lock and I can keep my PAL 360 for bargain bin titles, original XBox games and for general convenience.

                        Not bad =]

I asked in the Region Free thread, but no one answered. Are we sure that the JPN version of Crackdown is region free? Also, that it has english on the Asian is not necessarily a guarantee that the JPN version does. Or am I wrong?

As far as I know, there are NO Japanese Xbox 360 games that are region free, so the Japanese version of Crackdown will only work on a Japanese or Asian Xbox 360 console.
