Tiscali + P2P = Not on your nelly?

Anyone else use Tiscali for an ISP here and use Emule/shareaza etc?

I've been fine for downloading stuff for a while, however, in the last 2 weeks I've found that emule will just disconnect from servers and not be able to reconnect (on the emule network) and the kad portion of emule will say that it's firewalled.

Everything else (mail/web etc) works fine. IRC (DCC) doesn't though..

Anyone having similar problems? I've got a sneaking suspicion they may be monitoring traffic..

Do you use a firewall/router and port forwarding for things like DCC?

If so check to see if you've been given a new IP by the router (assuming you use DHCP), and makes sure it marries up to the IP in the port forwarding rules.

Yup everything has been setup and working for ages (Static IP's, not DHCP) DCC has worked before and so has everything else I set up ports for.

As for emule shutting down, I know the edonkey website is no longer there, but emule is still running. Fecking annoying. Still think it's tiscali, the bastards

i just got rid of tiscali after 3 years of ****.

they limited us during the day, to lower than 56k speeds, because i broke their fair usage policy.

p2p and torrents not on your nelly son ! i am with sky now, and as long as you follow the terms and conditions you are set (1mb a second on a 16mb max connection !!!)

Free,or you can pay a tenner a month for 'unlimited'.

I do think they throttle my Transmission though.

I haven't been able to get anything off emule for about six months now. I could connect to the servers just that nothing ever downloaded. Made me sad, emule was awesome for getting really obscure stuff.

I pay ?10 per month for uncapped 16Meg (connects at 8Meg though).

You have to take out a Sky TV package too, a basic one is fine.

I know P2P includes Kazaa, Limewire etc., but do torrents count?
I ask as I have uploaded/downloaded via torrents pretty much all day every day for the past few months.

Hmm.. get this then. Removed upnp (yes I KNOW) setting from XP and the router, removed all previous port mappings, recreated a new one and tried utorrent last night.

Worked like a charm on Tiscali.. WTF? So. Looks like my router (actiontec) is a pile of steaming wankstain. Which I sort of knew anyway

In eMule, try changing the default max connections down to 200-300 from 500. The available NAT sessions per client on some routers is quite limited, so you may be maxing out your sessions and as a result having issues after a period of time (especially if you've got a large number of files queued with multiple sources). You may also want to try turning off denial of service protection on your router if it has the option to, as this can also cause problems... for instance, my router will have a fit after about 30 minutes - 1 hour of using any P2P program with DoS enabled. Turned it off about 5 months ago I think, no problem since then.

There is also a protocol obfuscation option in eMule now which disguises the data packets so your ISP can't filter you, however I don't think that will help you personally. It may also limit the sources available to you however I'm not too sure on that.

What I say above are just my personal suggestions, I cannot be held responsible for any damage, etc, etc. (although you'd be hard pressed to break anything)
