    DC Reset Problem?!

Ok I want to play my DC again, but the last few goes it suffered from the infamous reseting itself problem that develops to some DC's.

Is there anyway to actually fix this? or do I have to buy a new machine?

    Please help me NTSC-ers!

Very likey a problem with the contacts for the power supply.

There a guide to sorting that here: http://www.tachikoma.co.uk/index.php..._position=38:9

For a quick fix, if you just use a game case to weigh down the lid rather than closing it then this normally solves the problem for me.

I've done this fix myself and it DOES work, and the best part is you basically only need a screwdriver. There's no soldering or electronics involved - if you can use a screwdriver, you can fix it.

Yeah, really easy. Needs to be done once every year or so on mine.

i had an issue with my dc whereby it didn't do the power supply reset (tell-tale sign is that the machine actually reboots) - it'd reset as though you just opened the drive lid (it just goes straight back to the dc's main menu with the icons for vm, audio cd, etc). i found out later it was to do with the drive not sitting properly, due to an ever-so-slight difference in the screw hole placement and it meant the button to tell the dc that the lid is closed was not being pressed properly. having said that, it was because i swapped the drive for another one that worked better (but was from an HK machine not JAP). swapping the drive for an identical one sorted it and i've had no soft-reset problems since (had the dc for about 2-3 years now)

reason i mentioned all that is because i'm assuming Insanity's fix is for the drive and not the psu...

                Cheers for that guys.

Il try the weight thing, then the screw-drivering.
I've never opened a console before, but that step by step seems explicit.

If you've never dismantled the console it's unlikely to be the lid sensor. Trust me, pretty much every Dreamcast that got used for more than a couple of years suffers the same reset problem, and bending the PSU pins back into shape is the fix.

I've never had to bend the pins. Just scrubbed them with some sand paper to make a clean contact area. Although that's probably why I get the problem come back after a year or so on mine.

wouldn't scrubbing mean they'll get oxidised after a while?

i bent the pins on mine cos i put a uk psu in there and at the time it seemed to only really effect uk psus not the jap ones. dunno if that's really the case - do all dc psus have this problem?
