    NTSC DC Question-

    Another Dreamcast request here.

I'm thinking of buying a US DC, what would I need to get it running on a UK TV? I own a step down transformer, would I need anything else?

As long as your TV accepts an NTSC / 60Hz signal (the vast majority do now) then you'll be fine.

I'd recommend reading the official NTSC-UK faqs, especially the import hardware FAQ, and TV compatability FAQ, both of which are full of useful info.

Basically you'll need a TV that can accept RGB and the NTSC colour format, and an RGB SCART cable to actually connect the console to your TV. You can find them on fleabay from anything from a couple of quid for a 3rd-party one to £6-7 for an official one, or a custom one with sound outputs etc.

You could also go down the VGA route as well but I've never tried using VGA with a DC. I can only refer you to this FAQ.

VGA on the DC is highly recommended, you will get a really nice picture and only a handful of games don't support it.

Indeed, it's the best picture I've ever seen.

Get a VGA box as opposed to a simple VGA cable, as then for those few non-VGA games, you can force them into VGA or if all else fails, use S-Video.

Note the VGA looks amazing on CRT monitors, but on LCD panels, the VGA will look nasty unless the panel has a really good scaler. On my Benq 19" lcd monitor, it looks terrible.

DC looks great on my 42" Plasma can't compare to a CRT though, don't have anything that old.

Had to shrink the size of the screen a bit though, as a 640x480 picture on a 42" screen looks poo.

                VGA all the way! Yay!
