setting up PS3 via HDMi please!

    yo people!!

ok i finally went and ordered a JP PS3 so thanks to everyone who helped me with that, so it will go hand in hand with my other HD console of the gaming pleasure the 360 but when setting up the PS3 for the first time, i am sure i read you have to have normal AV leads plugged in first and then the HDMi cable or is this not correct please?
can i just hook up the hdmi and it will auto select the channel please?
anyone shed some light please so i can be ready and able when it arrives

    thanks a lot

You have to have both the AV and the HDMI cables in. You do the setup in AV (standard NTSC out of the box) then switch to HDMI once you have activated it. I have both HDMI and Compopnent (for 480i PS1 games) connected at all times. You can safety start by holding down the power button for longer than usual, incase your HDMI messes up.

I'm considering just running it through Component anyway as I can't tell much difference in picture between the 2 cables. HDMI doesn't support 480i either, so PS1 gaming is out unless you play in 480p and then it sucks.

Likewise. I bought a Blaze HDMI cable with my PS3, hooked it up and it worked straight away. Didn't have to mess about with any other cables first.
