Well that's the kinda stuff you're gonna find on the PS3 too.

Looking at what you DON'T like, I suggest getting a DS instead..... Lots of other kinds of games besides the genres you listed.

I will say this about the 360: I never got an Xbox1 because I thought they were 1) ugly 2) by M$ 3) American 4) Didn't have many games I was interested 5) Don't like FPS ...... But I am SO glad I got a 360 because it's been my favourite console since the Dreamcast, I've barely touched my Wii since I got it at launch because of all the great 360 titles.

I was thinking a DS might be a good option too.

Scott, how about telling us what you do want from a console rather than what you don't want? Maybe we could offer some more constructive help that way?

i have all 3, the wii is the best of the 3 nuff said,

but the ps3 and 360 are still very good, games wise 360 atm, graphically i think the ps3 is already better with the likes of motorstorm and f1,

i think hd dvds on 360 look better than my blue rays on my ps3,

            Ive come to this conclusion

            360 = shooters
            PS3 = Racers

            wii = best

To be honest, it's the a***holes that make the thread worth reading.

Does seem a bit harsh when two people made helpful comments, and two made slightly sarcastic comments.

In any case, do you like your RPG's? I get the impression that you don't like sports games and I can't think of any other really big genre's. Or are you just a retro gamer? Platformers?

The PS3 will probably be the best for RPG's, with that new Level 5 one coming along (White Knight Story was it called?) as well as a new FF and there's bound to be more. Although the 360 does have Mass Effect and Bioshock, if you like Western RPG's but they probably won't do it for you if you don't like action...

In any case, if you don't like RPG's what do you like? Since that would rule out almost all the main genres.

                    Really? I've not met many.

You werent too helpful with your first post which is why you got a bit of sarcasm back.

Seeing as Fighting, racing and shooting games dont take your interest:

I'd say DS too as theres so many great games for it, it has great batterly life, can be played just about anywhere coz its handheld, although i mostly played it in bed, on the loo or on the sofa! But it comes in great when on a long travel by car (if your not driving!)/train/plane etc.
The library for it is incredible with lots of fun games, some you might play for more than an hour, others that are fun to muck about on for about 10- 30 mins, theres so much range. and if your into lots of functions you can buy a cheap Video/music player for about ?10-?20 from ebay which plays files off SD cards (1gb can be got for ?10 or less now) and an internet browser as the DS can connect to a wireless internet just like Wii.
Also it'll connect to your Wii later on letting you control games with your DS and get secrets/extras etc. Perhaps download VC games to play on your DS or demos.

my top 10 DS games: in no order:
Kirby canvas curse - a geniusly controller platformer
mario kart ds - a fun racer that can play with other local DS's or Online!
metroid prime hunters - FPS - single player, multiplayer with local or Online!
Mario and luigi: partners in time - A very funny and awesome RPG, that mixes turn based fighting with platforming and time based skills. With an interesting story, lots of humour to boot, platforming sections, good use of dual screen, no touch screen controls chucked in and of course rpg elements it really does make an interesting and upmost fun game.
jump super stars JAP import- Fun fighting game, single player is quite fun and really fun in multiplayer. I dont know if it's out in USA or UK yet, but its not that difficult to understand, although i think the sequel is out which has online multiplayer.
wario ware touched - lots of mini games controlled by the touch screen
Super mario bros DS - superb Platformer bringing a new version of a classic game.
Advance Wars DS - Very addictive turn based war game, shame there wasnt an online mode, fun none-the less! Also has hotseat multiplayer
Brain training - I love these "Non" games they keep making, fun things to play inc soduku if thats your thing, and makes you feel smarter as your brain age goes down!
Osu! Outtake! Ouendan! Jap import - Music Rhythm game.Possibly the most fun I've ever had from a game, the music is absolutely incredible, the gameplay though very simple is challenging, addictive and very fun at the same time.
I've not played the USA or UK version yet but judging by peoples reactions you need to import the Jap version for the best experience.
The language bar is very small, I know absolutely no Japanese but managed to play it fine and get quite far in it, playing it just about every day for a month! I cant stress just how good it is!

Also theres other gems which I loved including:
                    Sonic Rush - fast platformer
                    Animal crossing - life sim
Resident evil: Deadly Silence - 3rd person survival shooter
Electroplankton - Music touchable media art
                    Tony hawks american Sk8land
Mario 64 DS - If you didnt play the original
                    Meteos - Puzzle game
Nintendogs - Charming tamagotchi style pet sim

And theres still lots of games Im eager to try out that look great and I've heard good things about:
Phoenix Wright - Lawer game, really fun apparently, a new one on the way
Kirby Squeak squad - platformer, i love platformers, this is traditional kirby as apposed to the Canvas curse where you control him with the stylus,
Children of mana - Not as good as the original secret of mana but still a fun game none the less, specially when you play with friends multiplayer.
Final fantasy 3 - A remake of the Final fantasy 3 in America, lovely visuals, classic FF formula and I'm desperate to get this one.
Yoshi's island 2 - A sequel to the lovely Platforming game on the Super NES, which was perhaps one of the best platformers ever.
With new characters, new levels and enemies this looks like one of my next purchases as I loved the original for it's charm, beauty (2D ftw!), brilliant soundtrack and of course it's challenging but fun and addictive platforming gameplay!

And lots of games on the way that I have high expecations from:
                    Zelda phantom hourglass
                    Diddy Kong racing
                    Theme park
Final fantasy crystal chronicles ring of fates

With the DS you really cant go wrong, you're much better off getting the DS Lite which is the same system but better looking, brighter screen, bigger stylus and I think slightly improoved battery life.
It can be got for ?89.99 new in most game shops or if you look around you should be able to get it for the ?80 mark.
It also has the ability to play any GBA games you might have or want to buy, there are many great gems for the gba worthy of picking up, which is almost a selling point itself imo.

                    Pros -
                    • Quite cheap ?90 max new, can be got even cheaper new or a bit cheaper 2nd hand.
                    • Lots and lots of great games of all tastes and varieties/catagories etc.
                    • Plays gba games so even more choice of games
                    • GBA Games can be got fairly cheap
                    • Easy to import for - games quicker and cheaper!
                    • Can be taken anywhere - the loo, traveling, bed, you name it.
                    • connects to wii - future possibilities of playing VC games on DS
                    • Very fun and good battery life
                    • Can act as a media player if you get the addon + SD card for about ?20-?30
                    • Lots of support for the console and lots of games being developed.
                    • "non games" Like Nintendogs, brain training etc
                    • GBA and DS Games widely availble from all sorts of places including Game, ebay (avoid GBA games), Argos, Tescos, Whsmith, etc!
                    • Fun online infrastructure to play against strangers or friends.
                    • Has a simple clock and date system built in so games can play by Real time like animal crossing or pokemon and remember dates like your birthday (some games ask and some go by what you put into your DS)
                    • Has a Microphone which can be good for things like Nintendogs voice recognition where you can teach your pets tricks using real words said by you!
                    • Just because it has a touch screen doesnt mean it always has to be used, thankfully companies are realizing this with games like mario kart ds, super mario bros, castlevania portrait of ruin, Yoshis' island 2. Apart from menus dont use the touch screen for gameplay just rely on the DS's face buttons. Some games are just best the classic way.
                    Cons -
                    • Places like GAME still charge ?29.99 for some newer releases
                    • Online requires a Wireless router
                    • Online requires to trade friend codes, a 16 or so digit long code you and a friend must both give each other to add in each game, every online game has seperate codes unfortuantly.
                    • Most games dont have any decent lobbies and you cant see what your friends are currently playing unless you go on Nintendowifi.co.uk.
                    • Too addictive? - I guess you could see this either way but I've lost count to the amount of hours I've spent on mine since launch (inc DS and DS Lite) it's unbelieveable! I guess I'd actually say pro but the list looked too long!
                    • Speaker volume and quality isnt the best.
                    • Gap between the 2 screens can get quite annoying in games that use both screens simultaniously.
                    • A few games have had un-nessacery Touch and Microphone features added on just because it's there and seen as a way to make it worth buying apparently, which makes them not fun at all. IE - blowing the mic in battle mode on Mario Kart DS to blow up baloons.
Of course if you have a DS already this whole post and 20 minutes of my time have been completely wasted but oh well it's nothing to cry about

Sounds like neither the PS3 or the 360 are for you then. Load up on Virtual Console games instead or buy a DS for much cheapness.

i came on here hoping to spot a wickedly-typical argument about multiple cores and bar charts and SKUs and that, and instead i see a long list of DS games

scott, i'm in a similar situation with my 360, that i don't play hardly any of the stuff out for it (gears of war and table tennis are the only ones i own) but i keep it for HDDVDs and online streetfighter and that.

nowadays is multi-platform titles are the big thing, so most of the games won't be differentiating the two machines, but the games that DO will be the defining ones, the ones that *belong* on that console, things like halo and forza for the 360, and mgs4, tekken, devil may cry, etc, for the PS3.

if you don't like fighting, shooting or racing games then that'll put you off the PS3 for now at least (just like it is with the 360) as that's all that's out on it really, until the real PS3 exclusives start appearing.

if you wanna 360/ps3 cos your mates are cussing the wii's crappy graphics then i guess you'll just have to grin and bear it for now :P
