Rubbish, misconceptions like these are what confuse people.

The 3.6gb thing was what i had read somewhere, i never actually checked mine, lol. The one I have is definitely real, but TBH the biggest give away is the laser etched writing on the back. It is very very shiny, looks fantastic and really high quality. If EvilBoris's one has that then you're probs good to go.

I'm fairly sure now that it is a fake, albeit a very convincing one.

I'm currently loading it full of stuff too see how it handles that.

I bought what I think was a fake off ebay, but everything about it was absolutely spot on apart from the heat seals on the box. The hologram, etched writing, contacts, formatted size and transfer speeds were all perfect and it wokred fine. I ended up selling it on to someone (making them aware that I thought it was a fake) and got my money back that way. Even now I can't be 100% certain it wasn't real just because it was so well done but I didn't want to risk it dying on me and being left out of pocket - in the end I reckoned the warranty on an official one would be worth paying the extra money for, but that's just me.

Unless a fake card can physically damage the PSP, I'd probably be better off with a fake.

If anything does happen to my PSP, well I've probably already lost my warranty on it without the fake card thanks to homebrew and crap.

You get five years warranty with the official Sony stick which I think what charlaph is referring to.

Defo worth it when you think about it.

Turn on the PSP, go to Game, and highlight the memory stick. Hit triangle and choose information. If MagicGate is supported, I'm pretty sure that means it's an official one.

Same with mine, and I know for sure it's genuine, because I gave Sandisk the serial to check.

How easy are sony holograms to fake? Is it possible?
Very possible, and very easy. But only Sony uses the holograms. Sandisk doesn't.

Got my stick through today from the seller I bought it from. A definate fake what with the glue blobs and the unrecognised by magicgate. That said however, it does what its meant to and it claims to have more space than an official one anyway so.

Can't see it getting jammed in the PSP as its a perfect fit and the same size/shape as an official one and if the worse that happens is a loss of save data, then I'm not all that concerned.

Plus, its saved me a fair bit too.

Glad I read this thread before tripping off to eBay to pick up a memory card for my new PSP.

Thanks for the link to the SanDisk one at play.com whoever posted it a few pages back

Can't wait for all the emu goodness once it arrives.
