Sharing an Xbox Live Gold Account? Update - No you cant!

I've just purchased a 12 month Xbox Live subscription. Both my wife and I have gamertags on the same 360. Am I right in thinking that the Live account is associated with one of the tags only?

If so, does that mean for example that if the account is associated with my tag, that my wife can't use live without:

    A. using my gamertag.
    B. playing online with me.

    Thanks.
    Phil

Well thats feckin' stupid isn't it?

I'm not normally one to bash MS, but that reeks of money-grabbing to me. It should be a live account per 360, not gamertag.

Having done a bit more digging yields an entire thread dedicated to the matter over on xbox.com forums. MS seem to be hiding behind "increased database size/costs and complexity", which is crap because HD space is so expensive at the moment isn't it? That and the fact that they pimp SQLServer 2005 at every opportunity as the answer to all database solutions and yet they cant manage a simple system as outlined above?

For Shame Xbox Division, For Shame!

If you keep your eyes peeled you can pick up some bargains, which might alleviate some of your hardship. I got two prepaid card for ?12 last summer.

This is the best offer atm, if it is working:
