PSP 2.81 - Downgrade / Custom Firmware Possible??

    Hi guys,

I've stayed away from 'hacking' my PSP for a good long while now but the temptation to play some PS1 games on the move is almost too much to resist.

The firmware of my PSP is currently 2.81, just wondered if anyone could point me in the direction of the files I need & instructions on how to sort it out.

Is it possible to do something that involves no risk as I can't afford to brick my PSP, no matter how small the chances are.

    Cheers,

    ph0rce

You'll need to update to 3.03 and then use the new downgrader to get it to 1.5, and from there you can install the custom firmware. The downgrade requires an unpatched version of GTA: Liberty City Stories.

There's always a risk of bricking when messing with firmware, even when doing an official upgrade. As long as you follow the instructions exactly, there's very little risk though. I've downgraded and installed the custom firmware on a load of PSP and, touch wood, I've never bricked one.

FYI, you'll never find a method of downgrading your PSP that isn't without some element of bricking related risk - short of anything supported by Sony at least and we all know how likely it is that that'll happen.
