    PAL GameCube + Compnent cable...

    Hey guys,

I have a PAL GC which is modded with a QOOB chip, and a component cable for the system. Is it possible get progressive scan output out of PAL games, or am |I just stuck with the standard choice of 50/60Hz? I recall that the PAL system had this locked out, but having a QOOB chip unlocks it. Also, if I want to use the GC component cable, do I HAVE to use the standard AV cable, because it doesn't seem to work with the RGB scart cable. Any advice/pointers would be appreciated.

If the scart has cinch in/outputs on it, you could give those a try...

As for the PAL thingy, I doubt that it will work. Viper doesnt support this afaik, and I'm not sure about what I'm gonna say, but here goes: the forcing of the Qoob chip to component is only for the display of the embedded OS (?)

Some work, some don't, it's that simple I'm afraid.

The PAL GC hardware (if it has a digital av out) does actually support progressive scan. The problem is that the prog scan option (& the relevant code) was removed from the PAL release of pretty much every single game. It's really a software rather than hardware issue.

If you play import games (those with 480p support) on a PAL GC using either a chip or Freeloader then you will get a progressive signal.

The Qoob chip will allow you to 'force' some PAL games to display a progressive image. However, it's a bit hit & miss and only works with a small number of games. Most simply won't display at all and a few others will but with some 'glitching'.

If you're using a component lead then you'll also need to have another lead (either rgb with seperate l/r phono leads or the bundled av lead) connected too. The component lead only handles video so you need the other for audio.

So in that sense, I'm guessing a component cable doesn't really do much for a PAL GC, right? Nothing an RGB scart can't do on an HDTV (minus being able to unlock progressive scan on some games).

Yeah, there's no real difference in picture quality between 576i through RGB Scart and component. Some people say there's a bit of superiority but I've never noticed it.

If you have a Qoob chip, I'm sure it has a force 480p option which will give you a visual boost.

Shakey Jake is probably the best person to ask, I think he has/had a qoob modded cube.
