Saturn title recommendations

Bought a PAL Saturn of here couple of days ago. Never had one before as I went for (and only could afford) PSone back then.

I'm looking to make a bit of a shopping list of a few Saturn games I should try to get hold of. I understand I'll be probably missing a chunk of titles released in Jap/Us maybe, so tell me of these too. Don't make your list too long... about 10. Please alos let me know (if you can) if I'm gonna need to break the bank or get Lara Croft to search for a title.

Guardian Heroes (not really my thing mind but I bet everyone recommends it anyway)

Saturn Bomberman

You only really need Sega Rally though. Only Saga will kill your budget as everything else is available for pennies with TFV being the exception as its NTSC only... you'll find everything else in your local Gamestation. There are approx. a million variations of the vertical shmup genre too but they pretty much all play the same and can mostly be ignored for decent games

It's a fairly simple mod mate, could probably do it yourself with the most basic of soldering knowledge, takes about ten minutes. Google 'Saturn 50/60 mod' or that type of thing for loads of guides etc.

As far as all region games, no it does not.
You can buy an Action Replay 4 in 1, often referred to as the 5 in 1 though. That will enable imports and also act as a 1meg and 4meg cart for Capcom/SNK games (except KOF 95 as that uses a ROM cart).
Alternatively you can just stick a couple of switches in the machine, it's a case of switching jumper settings depending on the reigion. Again Google 'Saturn country mods' and you should find a few guides.

As far as recommended games, search the forums on here there's about a billion threads on the subject.

hmm, I'm a bit scared now - never ever soldered. I'll look it up though, maybe it won't be so bad.

Also Sega World Wide Soccer was pretty good & gave Fifa a serious arse kicking in the football stakes until ISS/Pro Evo arrived on PS1

yeh deffo mod it with 60 hz otherwise you'll be stuck playing any imports with black borders

Yep 60 Hz and a region mod is a Must, as is getting a 3D NiGHTS pad .

There's millions of Saturn games to get , but I'll just like to add a few more to that list


Duke Nukem 3D/Quake - Not only are both games great, but you'll also be also to play Death Tank Zwei.

Yeah looks fine mate.
A cheap one from the web or Maplin's will do the job. You won;t need a gas-powered one or anything fancy, enjoy!

Shining Force 3, best RPG on the Saturn along with PDS.
You should really get "Groove on Fight", a very nice and stylish game from ATLUS, altough it's unknown to a lot of people. Same graphical style as in the Last Exile anime, 4MB RAM support and 2 characters per player to switch.

As for the games mentioned before, you could always have a look in my thread here.
I may even have a 3D pad if you want that.

I agree with pretty much all the titles so far, Commander Marklar and team Andromeda's listed a ton of great games. I'd probably agree with prinsecharles but I havent played any of the games on he mentioned. Theres a ton of great games for the Saturn, two of my favorites that havent been mentioned are Story of Thor 2 and Clockwork Knight 1/2. Those two games reek of charm.

Also, the controller mentioned in your thread, is that a standard PAL pad? I'll probably take this also.


Can anyone tell me if Jap controllers will work on PAL Saturn or not?
