PS2 On LCD via component how does it look and game suggestions

I'm thinking about getting a PS2 but I've just replaced my SD telly with a Samsung LCD so I'll be connecting up the Ps2 via component.

How good / bad will the output be on PS2 games, Primarily the new final fantasy, Rogue Galaxy and Okami ?

Also any suggestions on what I can / should pick up cheap ?

It depends on your viewing distance from the TV. If you sit far back they still look decent and also if you're playing the games in 480p then they will looks fine.

Edit: FFX does look quite jaggy on all LCD TV's. But as I say if you're not to close then they'll still look good.

Depends on your telly too. It can actually look really nice if the TV is good at 480i.

Think the TV is ok and the Wii look fine at 480i.

Viewing distance is about 5-6 feet.

I've read that the s-video output on the PS2 might be a better option than component on an LCD, is this correct ?

I've just had the new Sammy n73 range of TV's and the cube in 480p looks ace. Also my older Sammy HDTV was still good at 480i just not as good as a CRT at 480i, but that's the case with all HDTV's in 480i/576i

No once you hook it up with component you'll notice an immediate difference on the PS2's dashboard. Just remember to set your PS2 to output in component first before you hook it up.

Is that even if the game I'm playing does not support progressive scan ?

If the game doesn't support progressive scan you are getting the same quality of image you'd be getting from an RGB cable on the tv.

I don't know how it will be on your Samsung LCD, but PS2 (and Wii) stuff looks excellent on my 37" Toshiba LCD from around 6ft back. I don't have any photos of FFXII, but I've been going through Shadow of the Colossus again and it still looks amazing:

                    Okami ?
Don't think anyones mentionend this yet, but Okami doesn't support progressive mate. There's an LCD option but on my 32" Samsung doesn't look much different at all, so not sure what it's there for?

I don't have Okami, but it's possible that it turns off the flicker-filter which should have it looking a lot sharper. It's just a shame not all games have the option to turn it off, as stuff like MGS3 looks rather blurry.

You could be right...it does look a bit sharper on my lcd. I think it may also adjusts the contrast/ brightness settings (in game rather than on the tv itself) a bit too as the image seems more 'colourful' when I turn the option on.

Samsung TVs have rubbish scaling and while it'll look better than an interaced signal, it'll still look a bit rubbish if there's any scaling involved
