Running a jap super famicom using a UK PSU?

    Hi all,

ive just ordered a Jap super famicom which comes with the standard jap PSU. what i want to know is, will it run using a UK megadrive PSU? someone i spoke says it will.

also, if the UK megadrive PSU works then won't a UK super nes PSU also work?

    Cheers

The UK super nes one works fine with the SFC.
    I use one for mine.

Can't say about the MD one, sorry

Can anyone confirm this? Is is possible to run a SFC with a PAL PSU? I've done a search on the forums and there are mixed responses.

Well as I discovered after blowing up my Famicom with a UK NES PSU (which is identical to the SNES one) that the Famicom uses DC, and I'm almost positive the Super Famicom uses DC as well. I know the UK Megadrive PSU uses DC, so works fine with the Famicom, so therefore should also work fine with the Super Famicom.

I still use a Sinclair Spectrum PSU with mine (not that i've used it for a while)

I used a Megadrive 1 PSU for my Super Famicom when I had one, it's DC centre negative.

Don't try a UK SNES PSU on a SFC, the UK SNES PSU is AC and will cause trouble like honeymustard mentions!

The MD1 PSU is great, works with quite a few consoles!

Yes I'll second that. A UK PSU won't be suitable. Have a look at the adaptors here, you'll notice the UK SNES PSU says 9v AC, and the small pic of the modded SFC back panel says 'DC In'.

Just had a look at both my plugs and this is what they say:

                SFC:
                AC Adapter
                Input: 100v 50/60hz 18va
                output: DC10V 850mA

                SNES/NES:
                AC Adapter
                Input: AC230/240V 50HS 17W
                Output: AC9V 1.3A

(I dunno what that all means though )

Did try using a SNES plug in my SFC, because my SFC came with no power supply, it worked but i got weird screen problems (screen going dark and flickering black line) so instead of risking it just ended up using the Japanese plug i got with my SFCJR.

                  Cool, excellent work guys.

So a PAL PSU is mostly likely not a good idea. But a PAL Mega Drive PSU should be OK as it has DC.

Not a Megadrive 2 PSU though, that's got a different (smaller and reversed polarity) tip on it though

Hey guys, just picked up an SFC, what would you recommend I buy to power it with?

                      Looking at this;
