I went for the US machine myself, just to be extra sure of region locking safety but I think that has been laid to rest now. I think which ever you can get cheapest would be my best advice.

Go for the US machine. The Japanese one apparently censors Resistance, regardless of which version the disc you're using is, and only lets Japanese consoles play with Japanese players. There are apparently ways around it by using a save created on a US machine, but it's obviously better to avoid the issue completely.

One more question what about a HK one do they suffer from the same censorship issues?

Don't know about censorship and the like, but the reason I'd personally want a US model is for backwards compatability with PSX/PS2 games from the USA. Seeing as most of my games come from that region I'd have to go that route really.

The HK machine is identical to the Japanese one.

It won't actually matter too much, since PS3 is region free for PS3 games, and both the US and JPN share the same Blu-Ray movie region.

The real difference is that backwards compatibility is region protected, and the fact that some games base their language (as well as stuff like censorship) on the region of the console, which could give problems if you have a JPN machine.

Remember that Genji 2 is censored on a US machine, whereas it isn't on a JPN unit. I went with JPN purely because of backwards compatibility issues.
                  Kept you waiting, huh?

The vast amounts of blood by all accounts. I'm not 100% on it, but I've heard from a few people that the US one is clean.
