I got mine yesterday. They didn't even phone me up so I was a bit surprised. Haven't even purchased component cables for it yet.

If you've got a PAL XBox, you'll need to have it modded or if not, use the Splinter Cell save trick if you want your XBox software displaying in Hi-Def.

Cheers matey. What's the Splinter Cell trick then?

Basically, the original Splinter Cell release allowed you to run a hacked save file, which boots the Evolution X dash-board allowing you to change the video-mode to NTSC.

You can use Agent Under Fire and Mechassault too, of course, if you don't want to hunt about for an original Splinter Cell.

How is everybody who got one finding the samsung LCD? Im thinking of picking up the 26" model, but there are some disapointed people on avforums. Something to do with the blacks, and 720p modes or something.

Might be some issues with 720p and 60hz, some conflicting reports.

Some better worded explanations, and a happy Samsung buyer, here http://ntsc-uk.domino.org/showthread...ht=samsung+lcd

Blacks are superb. If you turn on the brightness sensor and have that part of the wall / room lit, I'd say they're almost comparable to CRT blacks. Of course in a pitch-black room they're not as good, but still better than a lot of LCDs I've seen. Someone talked about sticking a couple of white cathodes (like you would use for modding a PC case) on the back of the set to help things.

There is apparently tearing in 720p over HDMI, but I've only seen one or two people report it. I've also seen about the same number of people saying there isn't any, which makes me think it could be their equipment. I've not been able to test this properly, only 720p over VGA, not component / hdmi, but I had no problems.

Lyris also said he had a lot of bleeding on the RGB SCART, but I'm getting very little. I think he might just have had a bad set.

For ?800 you're getting a fantastic television, and incredible value for money. I would highly recommend this to anyone.

Edit: the set does do all HD modes in both 50Hz AND 60Hz.

I`ve pretty much read all that thread over at AV forums and by what i`ve read, everyone who has access to 720P equipment i.e xbox using soul calibur 2 or media centre/ various dvd players that can upscale to 720p, have all said there is tearing over component and hdmi using 720p @ 60hz.

So if you want to use xbox 360 games over vga it will probably be fine, but over component you will have problems. And by the sound of there customer support it doesn`t look like the problem will get corrected anytime soon.

thanks for the reply guys. Looking at over sets there is nothing anywhere near this price range with a HDMI input, which is gonna be essential for sky HD.
Hodge, so Samsung are aware of the problem then i take it? Does that mean they will change a set when they have fixed the problem, i mean if i buy one now, and say in 6 months they fix it, will they change or 'repair' my tv. Isnt this the 'official xbox 360' tv so its gonna have to be perfect for the launch of the 360.

Well people have phoned them up, but samsung`s customer service doesn`t seem to interested in the problem or even know what 720p is for that matter . Unless they get a huge bombardment of calls complaining about the fault, it won`t get fixed.

As for it being the offical tele for xbox 360, well the US version won`t have any probs as 720p/1080i @ 60hz is there only option where we have 50/60hz so at a guess samsung messed up the software on the uk spec version somewhere. From the people who have seen the fault first hand, the fault is quite annoying as the tearing last for around 10 seconds a time when it happens, but it`s a random fault so there`s no set time line how often it happens. Personally it would annoy me to much seeing this happen when playing my xbox so i canceled my order.

I`d say wait or perhaps save up abit more as there will be a few new hdmi lcd arriving very soon from sharp, sony, lg and panasonic and i would be pretty sure they will be able to do what there supposed to.
