Thats actually a very good question, which I would like to add to.

I've got a HDTV and HDMI DVD Recorder on the way, I already use a scart junction box to switch between my PS2, Xbox and DVD player to a crappy 14" CRT TV, but my question is can you get one for the HDMI port as the TV I'm getting has only got 1 and I'll be running the DVD recorder off it.

I'm just getting into the next gen stuff so I'm not up on how you set things up, I'll probably get a 360 in a few months.

I'll post a pic then or once my TV arrives.

I've only just finally escaped this myself, and it's fantastic not having to change component leads any more (they're the most fiddly :P ). PS3 through HDMI, 360 through VGA, Wii through Component and Cable through SCART.

Guys, can you remember how much that Ikea unit was? It's just the sort of thing I'm looking for...

        Very nice setup BTW.

I have over 300 DVDs now and I cannot find a single-file shelving unit that can hold up to or over 300 DVDs (about 50-60 of them are box-sets). I have a lovely glass TV unit but my shelves are in an awful state - I popped to Argos but their units have very thin wood that makes me wonder if I will wake up one night to the sound of a hundred DVDs hitting the floor.

Any advice for me from those who do (or have seen) have a decent 300+ DVD storage unit?

            £89 quid.
I'm also pretty sure you could assemble it without putting the feet on John. Can't remember exactly as it's been a while since i put it up.

I originally made mine up without the feet on no problem, I had to sell it on in the end though as it was just too big (too deep really). Replaced it with the 'oppli' also from Ikea, no glass but a better size !

There's a reason why it's called audiovisual and not audiovisual Audio is so much more important than the visual side of things, IMO. Having a decent TV is a big part of it, but it won't draw you into the experience as well as a good set of speakers
i have to say, i've heard them and agree, they're lovely for their size, i was very impressed considering they're absolutely tiny.

as for the sound being a part of the experience, i agree 110%, it's nice having a lovely picture but if you're lacking a real kick up the arse sound to go along with it, it's wasted. which is why i love the bang and olufsen gear i sell, the tvs have proper speakers!!

i thought my floorstanders were pretty good until i acquired my mordaunt short genie setup, yeah the floorstanders do music wonderfully including the low end bass of most tracks but on movies? no comparison. the monster sub easily kicking out the low end to get the windows rattling. i think the setup cd is the most fun thing ever...

They're been run in now as I've had them for about a week. I love them!

Even after I'd decided to buy them I just refused to believe a 4" speaker like the Micro Ti could sound more open and detailed than a pair of floorstanding speakers. They're just so good with music - everything sounds clearer, and vocals are so much more defined. If I had to say one honest criticism then it's that they don't go down very low. But I've got a subwoofer for that...so does that even really matter?

Mordaunt Short do make some really nice products. I was going to consider some but that was before I wanted some smaller, sleeker, speakers. Their subs are great though - really good value for the spec and they look great

                    edit

A couple of small photos. I've been tidying everything up today and I've shuffled everything around, tidied away some cables etc. It's still a work-in-progress but it's about 70% finished atm

                    Family Guy, DVD

                    Simpsons, Sky+ via scart

Okay, my little boy is now old enough to respect the electronics so games have relocated from the spare room to the lounge. This has resulted in a compression of the setup, just PS2 and Xbox 360. Only allowing me to play Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, Final Fight, Gears of War, Street Fighter 3:Third Strike, Gran Turismo, Gradius V, SEGA Rally, Guitar Hero, Pro Evolution Soccer, Shadow of the Colossus, Ridge Racer, ... It's a real problem

I had to buy a new TV as the old one was a 28" CRT. Great for fighters, not so good for the lounge as there's already a 32" TV for actual TV. The 28" is now in my bedroom, it's like I have enabled a zoom feature on my eyes since I used to have a 21" TV there Anyway, this is a Samsung LE23R71BX. I took my 360 into Currys to try it out. Liked it, so I went home and bought it for ?150 less online, (BeyondTelevision.com, excellent service). The picture looks great to me, although I'm no expert. I can notice a bit of lag, but nothing major, and no worse than any other LCD I've seen. For the photo I have turned the brightness and contrast to near zero so you can see the screen. It's super bright normally

The speakers are temporary, a bit much at the moment. I'm going to get some tiny speakers with a subwoofer - I heard some around my mate's house and I thought he had his proper hi-fi speakers on, they made an awesome amount of sound. Although if I do that I'll have to put my NAD away, *sniff*...

Got a couple of scarts left in the switcher as the 360 is through component. Might have to bring the old Xbox down for Outrun 2. The DC is nicely tucked away at work...

Bloody hell, someones got a lot of cash to spare.

I'd post mine, but its shameful in comparison, CRT TV, a few consoles (no next-gen yet) and a decent amount of games.

I love some of the artwork you've got around your room by the way. Looks really nice.
