    Blaze Playstation2 HDTV Player Kit?

I bought an HDTV late last year, and I'm overall really happy with it. But my Playstation2 has had some neglect since, and yesterday I spent a hour or so trying my PS2 games on it, just to see how they looked.

Now generally the games didn't look great. Two of the biggest villians being Ico and Shadow of the Colossus - because they (textures especially) look ****ing rancid.

My old set-up was a Blaze RGB scart (which I'm still using) feeding into an old 25 inch widesceen tube Hitachi, and both did a fantastic job. Now I know my eyes have now experianced HD gaming or whatever, but I can still see fault with the PS2 picture quality now the TV has changed. Everything is just more rougher and there's little sharpness to the picture at all. So I'm wondering what I can do about it.

I saw this HD 'kit' in the sales last month and just sort of dismissed it, but now I'm curious. Has anyone had any experiance with it?

It's marginally better looking, but not enough to justify having to boot up the disc every time.
You should ditch RGB Scart and use Component, as many HDTV's just handle Component better than Scart, plus you can use the 480p modes if avaliable.

SotC always looks **** regardless, because it runs at an extremely low resolution. Ico too. RE4 too.

The PS3 actually runs all PS1/2 games in deinterlaced 480p, which may benefit people who's TV's don't handle 480i/576i very well.

Yeah well that's the other option I guess. I mean my Wii is on Component at the moment and I'm pretty pleased with how it looks. But I wasn't sure whether PS2 on component would have a similar effect.

Are there any PS2 component cables to look out for then - a good brand anyone can recommend?

There is a first play thread somewhere, total failure/waste of money by all accounts.

Component alone is a massive improvement on my LCD. Bigger than going 480i to 480p IMO. You need to give it the benefit of the doubt in some ways because it's never going to look as good as HD stuff, but I certainly find it acceptable and some stuff can still be great.

I've just got a Game own-brand cable which I got from their sale for like £7.99. Bargain.

It does have some merit, in that it allows VGA resolutions to be output, using both the included Component cable and a VGA cable. This is the only half-decent VGA solution for the PS2.

But aside from that, I wouldn't bother.

I actually gave mine to my friend because I couldn't sell the thing, and it was just waste of space on my shelf.

While I remember, can anyone recommend a component switch box? Because I'm sure I'm going to need one to switch between Wii and PS2.
