I've never seen a Playstation game running in progressive scan myself. Are you sure Yakuza supports it? There may be an option in the menu instead of the button combo. Also, your tv may have a function to tell you what resolution the source is. My tv will say 720x480 for p scan and 720x480i for interlaced.

does yakuza have a 60hz mode for regular tellys? that'd be an indication i'd say - if the game is 50hz-only, i doubt it'd have a 480p progressive mode (which is 60hz).

if it isn't popping up the progressive scan warning when you hold the buttons at bootup then that's your answer i guess. of the progressive games i've tried, gt4, tekken5 and shadow of the colossus have menu options to enable progressive, whereas resident evil 4 required that i hold the buttons down at bootup as there was no mention in the options for enabling the mode.

The game doesn't have a progressive scan mode. Just 60hz.

Also nobody in the first play thread actually said the game does have one apart from you.

is there a big difference between 480i and 480p on your telly (is it crt)? on my lcd i can't really tell - slight deinterlacing things here and there - as it looks pretty blocky either way, and at times i actually prefer 480i to 480p (only on my ps2 though not the xbox)

yeah theres a huge difference with my toshiba. I originally play Shadow of the colossus through 480i and the different between the 2 is huge. 480p is so much better. whenever there isn't an option for it, i feel slightly dissapointed. 480i on the ps2 is like someone got a tub of vaseline, dipped a spade in it, then smeared it all over the telly.
