PS3 Import Questions

Just wondering a few things about US PS3 and I'm still in the process of deciding to buy one.

1. The main factor in me deciding to import a PS3 is online play. All I want to know is whether regional online play is console related or disc related. E.g If my friend has a UK console and a UK version of RFoM, for example, could I play him if I have a US console with the UK version of the game?

2. The second factor is Blu-Ray region coding. Does anybody know if datel or any company plan on releasing a region free blu-ray disc player. Think 'DVD Region X'.

3. My auntie is America now and I'm hoping she will be able to bring one back. What is stock like over there and do you think customs will catch her if she removes the box and wraps PS3 in clothes?

For movies get an american one as it will have more choice than europe and is also cheaper.

I reckon there will be a linux blu ray player which can play all region on linux for PS3 eventually, but will it be possible to do this I don't know.
