    Any good, basic Photoshop tutorials?

I'm trying to produce a simple website banner similar to the one above. So I have a picture and want to put some nice looking text on it. I have a copy of Photoshop and lots of time on my hands, so I was wondering if there's any good tutorials on how to make text look good, explain layers and the like?

    Thanks,

    Mike.

    First result in Google: http://www.good-tutorials.com/
Lots of time on my hands but totally unmotivated to read them to see if they are good (and free)
BTW, hit F1 and see if the online help does its job; there are a couple of simple tutorials and step-by-step introduction to the tools.

Making a banner like that is dead simple in Photoshop.

Just chop out a section of the picture that's the size you need and that looks good. Use the text tool to write over it, and you're done! Just use the Save For Web feature and save it as a JPEG or PNG. Play with the quality settings and try to get the best balance between quality and size.

Btw, I haven't used it in yeeaaars, but I seem to remember http://www.photoshopcafe.com being quite good.

I know http://www.phong.com/tutorials/ has some trippy tutorials. Check out ePlastic - that was mind-blowing to me at the time.

Btw, if you're looking for a nice thin font, fontshop.com are giving away the quite attractive Preface Light: http://www.fontshop.com/features/free.cfm
