How to play NiGHTS?

I recently got this game. It's something I very missed out on due to take the PSone path.

Anyway, I recently got hold of the Jap version (including the analog controller) and I'm not too sure what I'm meant to be doing. From what I can gather, I collect enough blue orbs drop them off in the big crystal ball thing, get some more orbs and then eventually a coloured gem will be acquired, which I then drop off again... then off to the next round...?

There are various things on the HUD I would like to know what they're representing, if anyone can help... letting me know what the HUD stuff means would help a lot I think... plus any other stuff like... Links and Lucks

Exactly the same boat i was in. I started a thread in retro gaming 'Nights- what am i supposed to be doing?' which will help you out. Glad to see im not the only one whos thick

basically once you have collected enough blue orbs and dropped them off you then can go to where you started to progress to the next stage

however really the idea is you have to milk the level for a bigger score as possible before the time runs trying to get as big a link as possible

collecting stuff adds to the chain you can use that loop attack to suck in stuff if there is a big group for example if there was a large group of items you would go around the edge of them in a circle picking up the out side ones then when that was done becuase you went in a circle it would create a vortex sucking the others in but there is a slight delay giving you enough time to find more items but still adding to the link

i cannot remember which one now (either the girl or the boy) as i have not played it for a little while but i think there first stage has a infinite link possible (well before time runs out)

Yeah well that helps a little bit. But I'm still in the dark about a couple of the guage meters (pictured in first post), the yellow/orange/red one and the green one.

R and L seem to do a pointless show off move, after playing this game on and off for a year or two I haven't gotten much better myself. I used to be good a t Christmas NiGHTS when it came out ages ago but now Im clueless. Thanks for the tips eastyy, I didn't have a clue as to how the ranking system worked. The music in this game is indeed awesome, I hope you get as much enjoyment out of this game as I have throughout the years.

Just remember that while getting 20 orbs to the cage and going back to the start is the objective, it's not the point of the game itself. The point is the freedom of simply flying around, getting as many points as you can in the time limit, and just plain soaking up the fun. Your meant to enjoy it, from a time when games weren't focused on mission objectives and whatnot.

Some may not like it, may not get it, and I kinda understand really. I adore it though, as I did Burning Rangers.

christmas nights was ace i really enjoyed that alot

About the boss after Stage 1.... how? lol (Normal NiGHTS)

If it's the big dragon thing called Gilwing, you fly into it's chin under its teeth and boost when you've grabbed it. Then fly foward a bit and go back when his head reapears. Is Puffy the fat opera lady? That was the most fun for me probably!

or with gillwing if your really good you can use the loop attacks on it
