I can't believe no one's mentioned the sublime Power Stone. Capcom's best attempt at a 3D fighter yet.

Whenever, I get people to play this game they always complain that it lacks depth but there is much more to this game than first appears. You can approach the game from different approaches. Attempt to play in a traditional beat em up style is possible and some of the stuff I've seen people pull people off with characters like Fokker (Falcon), Ryoma and Wang Tang is phenomenol. Plus you can take advantage of the game's diverse environments and weapons to play in a differnt style. Truely unique and no game has come close to matching it in its specific niche.

Avoid its sequel though. That really is unfocussed, unblanced, depthless tripe.

The visually fine, smokey trail your bazooka shot produced in Blue Stinger. Me dug the diverse locations, the very together-feel of the game world and the soundtrack too. People complained about camera problems at the time it was released. I just loved it, played thru it 2x the least me thinks.

The JP version is perfectly playable without any nihon-knowledge. Character voices are in English, some japanese text-based choices have to be made along the way, but are few and far between (trial and error will work, or some site like gamefaqs I guess). Once or twice a code has to be entered, but you will spot it in some written paragraph (arabic numbers) which appears before these events. These are minor tasks.

The PAL version is horrible in terms of speed. Avoid.

The US version I never got to see, I would be interested to learn how that one plays.

All the incredibly cinematic scripted camera movements from the .jp version of Blue Stinger were scrapped for the western version that got a buggy "always behind you" camera system that totally ruined the feel of the game.

I'd go as far to say that I prefer the .jp Blue Stinger to code veronica. Its just a fun game that dosent take itself to seriously. Sure its not perfect, but the positives far outweigh the negatives. It all depends whether you prefer western games that have to make "sense" or more off-beat .jp games.

Rent a Hero #1 is only released in .jp but its playable using faqs and such. Missing out on some of diaolgue is worth playing it for, apart from being very funny, its very nice graphically.

I was going to put Power Stone 1 and 2 in, but i thought they were listed in another post. i guess i should read all of them before i post. The Power Stone series is must-have.

I do believe Rent A Hero #1 is being re-released, or has been re-released in the "best of" Dreamcast series Sega have been releasing this yearin .jp. They were "budget priced" but from an importer you can expect normal import
game prices probably. Trawelling around sega.co.jp or some import sites will give you an idea.

There is rumour of an Xbox Rent a Hero No.1 too.

The DC version is Japanese only and Japanese heavy, from what I've read.

Shame, I'm quite interested in this game. Lets hope that of there is an Xbox release it gets a English language version.
