PC FireWire question

Basically, I want to buy a DVD writer but as my pc only has USB 1.1 I want to get a FireWire one.

My question is: my PC only has a 4 pin FireWire port, but all the DVD writers I've seen require 6 pin. Could I use a 4 pin to 6 pin cable, and if so would I lose any speed?

Any help appreciated!

yeah that is fine.

I use a sony firewire dvd-r on my laptop, also have a plextor cdr and a 120gig h/drive, both in external firewire cases.

you wont loose any speed.
