if it was a straight choice between the 2 which would you go for? to be used in a 2gb 3800 Athlon 64 X2 not a huge gamer on the pc but would like something semi ok doesnt have to be cutting edge .e.g def not paying more than ?70 or so

If I was in your position, 7300GT. Neither will be that great though.

7300GT. I had one before getting an X1800XT and it was a great card. Perfectly capable of playing FEAR, HL2 and FarCry at 1280x1024 (admittedly with the settings knocked down a bit) Get one with GDDR3 and it'll probably overclock like a b@stard too.

I've been looking at graphics cards during the last week and comparison sites like tomshardware and it looks as if the 7300GT performs marginally better. However, I've just been researching a bit: you can find the X1600 Pro at under your ?70 price point. This clearly out-performs both in all tests I've seen. There are several versions out there from different suppliers but I think it meets your criteria.

That's true, I have an AGP X1600 Pro in my backup machine and it's great.

If your willing to pay a bit more, X1950's are the bargin of the century right now http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...=56&subcat=404
