    XBMC video file size limit

Trying to play a couple of LARGE video files on XBMC (not the latest version btw) and the damn thing doesn't even see the files, much less fail to play them.

One is an avi, the other wmv.

I assume anything over a certain size doesn't work - any one know what the limit is or how to get around it?

The limit is based on the quality rather than the size. If its 720p xbmc will have problems.

As Bootmonster says, it can't be the file size, as you can rip DVD's to iso with dvd2xbox, and that plays ok. Only had this happen with a 720p myself, yes. It plays for 1 second or so, but then stutters really hard. So that's a no go.

Remember, if the file itself isn't seen in "My Videos", but is seen in the file managing screen, there probably is a " " (space) after the file extention (when renamed in XBMC), and thus isn't seen when trying to play it from "My Videos".

Strangely i've only just tonight started reading the xbmc manual and yes there are file size limits due to the xbox file system.

        Take a look in here

I steam my content from a Windows PC, so haven't had any problems (with files upto 4.5GB). As previously mentioned, 720p/high def content will play, but stutter - just not enough horsepower in there unfortunately.

I looked at it and couldn't find anything what you're saying.

Now where exactly does it state that it's limited in size?

you could split it into seperate files, xbmc will collate all the files in one directory and play them seamlessly

I have a 10Gb video file that XBMC can play but with dropped frames. It is streamed from a linux box.

Look in the troubleshooting section, its in there but like others have said how does it dump a full dvd on the hd and work.
