Can someone suggest a good 22" Monitor for PC/360/PS3 gaming?

Okay this is the last thread I'm doing on Monitors I swear!!

Well, after making a decision about 2 wks ago to get the Samsung 20" 206bw I still cannot get a hold of 1 anywhere!!
And as is normal for me, I've now looked for other monitors & decided to up my size to a 22 incher! (Ooer!).

I'm looking for a max response rate of 5ms, which looks good, has at least 2 connections (VGA/VGA, VGA/DVI or whatever), for a maximum price of £240.

Can anyone help with any suggestions or with their own experience of monitors. Do you think that 22 inches is too big?

    Thanx ppl!!

Also would I have trouble running a 22 incher on my 3-4 yr old PC?
    Specs are:
    Athlon XP2200,
    512mb,
    80g,
    Radeon 9500 Pro - closest ratio (to the 22" native res of 1680 x 1050) is either 1360 x 1024 or 1600 x 1200.

        Hold up!!

I've cancelled because theres no sign of 1 turning up any time soon.

I'm pondering the HP w20 now as its a damn site cheaper & is only slightly smaller.

Check out PC Pro's website, you can't go far wrong with their reviews. They have an A List of the best products but you can also check out their labs and reviews archive.

I went for the sm205bw for £175 inc vat & p&p from overclockers

I'm glad I didnt get a 22" because I read that although u get more screen size with a 22 incher (obviously!) u actually get a worse quality picture as the resolution is the same as a 20 incher only blown up making it less clear looking.

This one has a really good price considering the £50 cash-back.

Yeah I saw that 1 but also saw the HP w20 on HP's site for ?170, which had the same specs & I thought looked more TV looking because of the built in speakers. Problem was that I couldnt find a review anywhere so didnt want to take a risk & order a dud.

When I found the sm205bw for ?175 I thought it best to go with what u know is top quality. I was worried that it being WS meant it wasnt going to be compatible with my Graphics Card, but my Radeon 9500 automatically picked up it as WS & gave me the 1660 x 1050 option which wasnt there when I checked the res's b4 I bought it

I'm actually on the look out for a new monitor (no hurry but hope within the next month or so) and came across a samsung sm226bw, but i've not seen it anyway cheaper then about £250. So what I wanna know is it actually worth it for a 22inch screen as its got good reviews everywhere and looks great too.

EDIT: the sm26bw you ordered Tommy, was that a misprint and was it ment to be a 226bw?

Yeah misprint mate. Meant to put 226bw.

                    I ordered a 206bw @ ?205, waited about 2wks (no stock) & suddenly the price went up to ?220 so I cancelled.
I then ordered the 226bw @ ?240. Waited & waited then the price went up to ?280!!. That order was cancelled.
Was going to get a HP 22" but just decided that it was gonna mean spending to much money, so I was going to buy a 20" HP but couldnt find a review.
Then I just thought sod it, lets get a good monitor thats had plenty of top reviews & I managed to get the sm205bw for ?175. Bargain!!

I've read that 22" monitors just blow up the largest resolution that u get on a 20" monitor to fit it & therefore u lose a little detail. Dont want to put u off or anything, but it was another reason (plus the cost & my patience!!) why I opted for a 20" instead.

Welll I would prefer larger screen space, even at the loss of a bit of image quality, as I've got a 17" at the moment but my brother has got a 19" and I prefer his screen to mine even though we both have our screens set to 1280x1024 resolution (both are DELL only difference is screen size). Well I'm not gonna pay more then £250 for any screen and can wait a few months so hopefully they will be more readily avaible (no place i've seen seem to have them in stock, with all waiting times 4+ weeks!!, so that could be why prices went up), and also see a decrease in price.

Hmm it looks like Play.com will have the sm226bw in stock from the 25th of March for £240 delivered (http://play.com/PC/PCs/4-/3336346/-/...earchsource=0), but i wanted to know if I was to order from there would I be hit with import tax or should I be safe since its from Jersery? Cheers

Did anyone buy the SM226BW in the end and are you running it with a 360/PS3? What res are you running the 360 at and how is the end result?

                          Geezer

CRT, CRT, CRT, and again, go CRT all the way for alrge monitor, Large Crt monitor's that are off a good spec are simply so much more beautiful when playing High resolution games with a good graphics card like the 8800GS, or Gtx, or the 2900 series from ATI.

Honestly, you cannot beat a nice large Crt monitor for picture quality as when you are PC gaming at that range, LCD's problems with black is very, very apparent, so is the readybrek effect on desktop applications which use alot of black or grey.

I understand though if space is an issue, make sure you buy a good spec monitor and not those peices os **** from Dell, pm me if you want some reccomendations and I can put you in touch with some good suppliers for good prices.
