Dreamcast on VGA - is it cool?

Ive got a VGA cable in the post, heard the rumours that the DC outputs a rather impressive picture. gonna be running the system thru my 19 widescreen TFT.

anyone else doing the same thing?

worst thing is.....my DC died tonight, stop running games, opened up the case to inspect and basically the ribbon cable from lense to motherboard had deteriated and come off.....NAFFED NOT HAPPY!

Using VGA is like wiping a layer of grease from the screen as suddenly the little details pop out from nowhere. That was my experience anyway about 6 years ago.

      Yes, it's cool. :P

Even though it's not hi-def, it looks gorgeous. Particularly Rez.

This should be in the Console Q&A section of the forum though.

well, VGA is Hi-def in a sense DC through VGA is amazing. far better than Wii through composite or anything through composite. However some games such as 2D fighters (SOME NOT ALL) look pixilated.

Agree with all the above, only ever use VGA for playing Dreamcast games.

I note you are going to be using it on a TFT though. It could quite possible look REALLY BAD because the TFT won't be 640x480 native. It looks super ****e on my Benq TFT monitor. However, on a CRT it will look like the best thing ever.

It's EDTV well before its time, but I've hooked the DC up to my Bravia this week for Trigger Heart and to have a ganders at a few classics like JSR and it looks absolutely stonking in VGA, better than the Wii in component, let alone composite

It's just so nice not having the scrolling interlace blurring out the image, though at the same time it does mean that some games actually look worse as a multitude of visual sins can be hidden with interlace.

Games like Under Defeat and other vertical shooters I prefer to play on my 17" Flat Screen CRT (in VGA) turned on its side though.

If you have a telly / monitor that upscales well then then the DC via VGA can still look brilliant. I hooked my DC up to my 42 inch HD plasma a while ago and it looked fantastic! And like Smegaman, I found that the DC in VGA gave me a clearer and better picture than my Wii in component on that telly.

I use DC VGA on a 21" Iiyama CRT which looks great but it would be hard to go back to RGB or composite now

Yeah, like it's been said, it looks very nice generally but can look absolute poo with a TFT and sub par scaling.

The CRT route is excellent though, as not only does it look gorgeous, but you could probably also turn the monitor on it's side for some TATE if you're into shooters.

LCD's can look nice with Dreamcast if the scaling is good though, as you say. Dreamcast on my Bravia is brill
