TOS Optical Switcher - signal loss?

Got me one of these from Ebay t'other day so i don't have to keep unplugging my PS3, 360 and Xbox from my amp ..

Not sure if i'm imagining it or not, but when playing music on XBMC running through this it doesn't seem to sound quite so good. Is there a loss of sound quality running through one of these? Not really sure how they work exactly and if this would produce a quality reduction...

I have one of those as well and it doesn't seem to be a very reliable bit of kit. I have an HD DVD player, Xbox 360 and PS3 hooked up to it and the only one I could get any sound out of was the HD DVD player!

No amount of cable swapping could get sound from the PS3 or Xbox 360. So at least yours is doing better than mine I think I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and buy something that costs more than a fiver!

Get one of those - picked mine up in London a year ago for about £50, works a charm with no signal loss.

I have the same one as you Gav and mine works a treat.

Admittedly i haven't played any music through it,but PS3,360 and Xbox 1 sound cosmic.

Being optical and digital these things will either work or not. I think the sound quality must be a result of something else.

Think you're right actually Nick (and Smouty), i've tried running them through my Dad's high end optical switching device and there is no difference, think i was just imagining it (the old 'it's cheap so it must be rubbish' sub-conscious thing)

I got one of these, from the same seller too, and mine works fine with 360, Sky+ and Xbox.
