Is my PS3 broken?

I've just recived my Japanese PS3 from the courier, I try to switch it on and the console beeps three times and then the power light changes to orange and them back to red standby mode.

Is it broken?

Have you tried from the console aswell as the pad? Have you tried with a disc in aswell,although maybe you cant get one in with no power?

Also,are you using a uk power lead,or a stepdown?

Have you tried starting it in safety mode? Hold down the power button, until it turns on in standard NTSC mode. You'll have to use the composite cable to do this.

This happened to me initially, it will just be that the machine isn't getting enough power so turns itself off. Are you using a UK power lead or a stepdown?

Out of interest is it advised to use a UK power lead or a stepdown then? I use mine with a 300w stepdown, but would i be better getting hold of a uk power lead?

I get that too sometimes. Oddly enough I've found it only happens if I put my TV in standby before/during the PS3 powering down. If I keep the telly on, I have no problem
